Claire Thompson entered the PWHL as one of the most highly touted defenders on the planet. The Toronto product was the third overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft by the Minnesota Frost.
Thompson spent her NCAA career playing for Princeton University. She graduated from Princeton in 2019-2020, captaining the Tigers that season. Internationally Thompson made her Team Canada debut at the IIHF World Championships winning gold. In 2022, Thompson was named a tournament All-Star at the Beijing Olympics helping Canada win gold.
Following her NCAA career, Thompson turned professional with the PWHPA playing on the Dream Gap Tour. Thompson did not declare for the inaugural PWHL Draft taking a year away from the game to pursue her medical degree. Choosing to return to the sport following her season away, Thompson was selected third overall by Minnesota.
