Michela Cava is a professional women’s hockey player from Thunder Bay, Ontario. She currently plays in the PWHL for the Minnesota Frost. Minnesota selected Cava 72nd overall in the inaugural 2023 PWHL Draft.
Cava split her NCAA career between the University of Connecticut and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. After four seasons in the NCAA, Cava turned pro with the CWHL’s Toronto Furies in 2016-17.
Following her lone season in the CWHL, Cava headed to Europe where she began her European tenure with MoDo in the SDHL. In 2018-19, Cava was Sweden’s top scorer winning the SDHL scoring crown with 64 points in 36 games. Two seasons later she won an SDHL title with Lulea. It was the start of a championship era for Cava.
In 2021-2022, Cava moved to China playing for the KRS Vanke Rays in Russia’s women’s hockey league. That season she led the ZhHL in playoff scoring with 17 points in eight games. She was named the playoff MVP winning a Russian title. Cava also spent a stint in North America that season with the PHF’s Toronto Six.
In 2022-23, Cava won her third consecutive title in her third league winning an Isobel Cup with the PHF’s Toronto Six. It was also Cava’s second consecutive season being named playoff MVP.
Following her season in the PHF, Cava was selected by PWHL Minnesota. Cava appeared in all 24 games during the inaugural PWHL season and played an integral role in yet another championship run. In the PWHL playoffs, Cava recorded eight points in 10 games helping Minnesota win the first ever Walter Cup title.
