Susanna Tapani | PWHL

Susanna Tapani is a professional women’s hockey player from Turku, Finland. She is currently a forward for the PWHL’s Boston Fleet.

Tapani is one of Finland’s most decorated women’s hockey players. Tapani grew up playing club hockey for LaJy. She came to North American for a single season playing for the University of North Dakota in 2013-14. After that season, Tapani returned to Europe playing for HPK, TPS, and Lukko in Naisten Liiga. Following her time in Sweden, Tapani went to Russia to play for KRS Shenzhen.

Internationally, Tapani has multiple Olympic and World Championship medals representing Finland. She made her senior national debut in 2011 winning a bronze medal. She played in her her first Olympics with Finland in 2014.

Tapani took the 2022 season away from hockey to play for Finland’s national ringette team. She won gold with Finland at the 2010, 2016, 2017, and 2022 World Championships, being named MVP in 2022.

At the inaugural 2023 PWHL Draft, Tapani was chosen 25th overall by the Minnesota Frost. She was part of the first PWHL trade in history. Minnesota traded Tapani to the Boston Fleet in exchange for Sophie Jaques and Abby Cook. Susanna Tapani remains a member of the Boston Fleet.
