The Ottawa Charge will be without starting goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer for at least the next three weeks after the Charge placed their netminder on long term injured reserve.
“Many of you have kindly reached out to inquire about Masch,” wrote Ottawa general manager Mike Hirshfeld on X. “Unfortunately, we are going to have to place her on LTIR but we are cautiously optimistic we will see her back on the ice before the end of the season. Gwen and Logan are going to be great!”
Ottawa will now rest on third round pick Gwyneth Philip to play the remainder of their games with third goalie Logan Angers backing up. The pair are the only rookie duo minding a crease in the PWHL.
Maschmeyer suffered her injury while allowing a goal against the Minnesota Frost on Tuesday. It was only minutes before she’d recorded her 1000th career save in a 3-2 Charge win. Maschmeyer had appeared in 18 games this season for the Charge posting a 2.58 GAA and .913 save percentage. Maschmeyer’s injury was deemed a “lower-body injury.”
To fill their vacancy in net, the Charge signed netminder Lucy Morgan from the Minnesota Frost. Morgan appeared in one game for the Frost this season making 29 saves in a 5-0 loss to the New York Sirens. Morgan was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Frost after finishing her NCAA career at the University of Minnesota last season.
Ottawa currently sits five points out of the final playoff spot with eight games remaining in their season. They’re back in action Saturday when the Charge host the Boston Fleet.
