Hockey Canada announced their senior national team roster for the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Championships in Czechia. The roster includes several fresh faces including Jennifer Gardiner, Eve Gascon, Sophie Jaques, Hannah Miller, Daryl Watts, and Chloe Primerano.
“We are excited about the team we have selected for Women’s Worlds, a team that is built on exceptional talent, character and commitment,” said Troy Ryan, Canada’s head coach. “We are focused on our preparation and ultimately winning a gold medal.”
The expanded 25 player rosters under IIHF guidelines allowed Canada to bring fresh faces. The roster however, also features a plethora of returnees.
Ann-Renee Desbiens and Kristen Campbell are back in net. Gascon replaces the injured Emerance Maschmeyer.
On the blueline, Renata Fast, Erin Ambrose, Jocelyne Larocque, and Ella Shelton round out Canada’s blueline. Sophie Jaques and Chloe Primerano join the group.
Up front, Emily Clark, Sarah Fillier, Brianne Jenner, Emma Maltais, Sarah Nurse, Kristin O’Neill, Marie-Philip Poulin, Danielle Serdachny, Natalie Spooner, Laura Stacey, and Blayre Turnbull are joined by Miller, Watts, and Gardiner.
Canada’s roster that will play from April 9-20 in Ceske Budejovice, Czechia, also has an eye on the 2026 Olympics.
“With less than a year to go until the 2026 Olympics, this is our final opportunity to face a number of opponents and compete at the highest level as part of our preparation,” said general manager Gina Kingsbury. “We are excited about the team we have assembled to contend for a gold medal while also looking long-term on the road to Milan.”
Looking At Canada’s Omissions
Emerance Maschmeyer’s absence in net was due to injury. The remainder of the changes to Canada’s roster were decisions by management. She was joined by Ashton Bell, Jaime Bourbonnais, and Nicole Gosling who were all members of Canada’s 2024 gold medal winning blueline, who will not be in Czechia.
Up front Canada did not select Julia Gosling and Jamie Lee Rattray who were both members of Canada’s 2024 roster. Rattray has been a member of Team Canada for a decade. She won eight medals as a member of Team Canada including Olympic and World Championship gold.
