The top 10 finalists for the 2025 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award have been announced featuring a star studded group. Since 1998, the Patty Kazmaier Award has been given to the top NCAA Division I women’s hockey player.
This year the top 10 finalists include Joy Dunne (Ohio State), Laila Edwards (Wisconsin), Caroline Harvey (Wisconsin), Tessa Janecke (Penn State), Kristyna Kaltounkova (Colgate), Abbey Murphy (Minnesota), Casey O’Brien (Wisconsin), Kirsten Simms (Wisconsin), Haley Winn (Clarkson), and Issy Wunder (Princeton).
Izzy Daniel, a current member of the PWHL’s Toronto Sceptres, and Cornell alumni, won the 2024 award. In total, the last 11 winners of the Patty Kazmaier are playing in the PWHL including Taylor Heise, Aerin Frankel, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Daryl Watts, Alex Carpenter and others.
Four members of the Wisconsin Badgers are nominated, the first time since 2013 that a program has had four nominees. It’s also the first time a player from Czechia, Kristyna Kaltounkova, has been nominated for the awad.
The top-three finalists will be announced March 12, with the winner being revealed on March 22. This will take place at the NCAA Frozen Four.
