The NCAA women’s hockey quarterfinals saw some of the biggest names in the nation put in big performances to set up the NCAA Frozen Four. It sets up a true final four with the nations top four teams – Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota, and Cornell – advancing to the NCAA women’s hockey Frozen Four.

Wisconsin will take on Minnesota, while Ohio State will play Cornell with a spot in the NCAA championship game on the line.

Bergmann Wins In Battle Of Top Goaltenders

Annelies Bergmann outlasted Eve Gascon in a goaltending duel between Cornell and Minnesota-Duluth. Bergmann and Gascon are two of the three NCAA Goaltender of the Year finalists this year. Bergmann made 28 saves in Cornell’s 1-0 win over Minnesota-Dultuh. Gascon stopped 20 shots at the other end of the ice. Alyssa Regalado scored the lone goal for Cornell in the third period.

Dunne Has a Four Point Night

Joy Dunne scored two goals and two assists for Ohio State as they defeated St. Lawrence 6-1. Jocelyn Amos and Makenna Webster also had mutli-point nights for the Buckeyes scoring a goal and an assist each. Sloane Matthews and Jordyn Petrie had the other goals for Ohio State who were dominant. Ohio State are the reigning national champions.

Murphy Leads Minnesota In A Close Contest

Minnesota (#4) and Colgate (#5) were the only match up between two teams who did not play an opening round game earning a bye to the quarter-finals. Abbey Murphy scored twice for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who held off Colgate for a 3-2 win. Sydney Morrow had the other Minnesota goal. Colgate mounted a late comeback after falling behind 3-0, but could not complete the feat.

Wisconsin Rolls Over Clarkson

After Nicole Gosling opened the scoring for Clarkson, it was all Wisconsin in their 4-1 win. Patty Kazmaier top three finalist Laila Edwards scored for Wisconsin, while fellow top three finalist Casey O’Brien had two assists. Also scoring for the Badgers was Lacy Eden, Kelly Gorbatenko and Ava Murphy.

The NCAA women’s hockey Frozen Four gets underway March 21 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The national championship game is March 23.
