PWHL New York was originally slated to play in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The team also had scheduled games at UBS Arena on Long Island in New York. After the team failed to draw sustainable crowds in Bridgeport, the PWHL abandoned the venue in favor of UBS and the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. New York named Micah Zandee-Hart the team’s inaugural captain and selected Ella Shelton with their first draft pick, 4th overall in 2023. New York played in the first ever PWHL game on New Year’s Day 2024 against PWHL Toronto. The team beat Toronto 4-0 with Corinne Schroeder earning the first shutout in league history. New York would ultimately finish last in the PWHL with a 5-4-3-12 record. Using the “Gold Plan” New York earned the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft. Ella Shelton and Alex Carpenter both earned First Team All-Star honors.
2024-25 Season
Following a last place finish in season one, New York parted ways with head coach Howie Draper. They replaced Draper by hiring longtime Colgate University head coach Greg Fargo. With the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft, the New York Sirens selected Sarah Fillier.
