Hilary Knight is the new all-time IIHF women’s World Championship leader in assists. She recorded three assists in USA’s 5-0 win over Switzerland to hit the mark.
With her 50th assist, Knight passed Hockey Hall of Fame member Hayley Wickenheiser.
“It’s an honor to coach this team and it’s an honor to coach Hilary Knight,” said USA head coach John Wroblewski. “Moments like tonight remind us how much of an impact she’s had on this team and this game. The win is just the cherry on top.”
Knight recorded her assists on a pair of Tessa Janecke goals in the first period, and the record setting assist on Caroline Harvey’s second period marker.
Records Continue To Fall At The Women’s World Championships
Knight’s record is the most recent during this tournament to fall. Michelle Karvinen became Finland’s all-time leading scorer earlier in the tournament passing Riikka Sallinen. Lara Stalder moved into first all-time in penalty minutes, and Marie-Philip Poulin continues to climb Canada’s lists. Similarly, Ann-Renee Desbiens moved into a tie for the all-time wins lead at the World Championships.
