Caitlin Kraemer of the University Minnesota-Duluth and Ava McNaughton of the University of Wisconsin earned top NCAA honours. The duo earned major national awards prior to the NCAA Frozen Four.
Kraemer scored 18 goals and 31 points in 39 games for the Bulldogs this season. The 5-foot-9 center took more draws than any player in the WCHA and won 54.6% of those face-offs. Just over a year ago, Kraemer broke Marie-Philip Poulin’s Canadian U-18 goal scoring records. Kraemer is the first player from Minnesota-Duluth to receive the Julie Chu Women’s National Rookie of the Year Award.
“We are incredibly proud of Caitlin for being named the National Rookie of the Year,” said Minnesota-Duluth head coach Laura Schuler. “It is an incredible honor that truly reflects her hard work, dedication, and natural talent. Caitlin is not only a standout player but also a student of the game, constantly pushing herself to learn and grow. Her speed, power, skill, and deep understanding of the game set her apart as one of the best in NCAA hockey.”
McNaughton Named Goaltender of the Year
Wisconsin’s Ava McNaughton is the 2025 NCAA women’s hockey national Goaltender of the Year. McNaughton backstopped the Wisconsin Badgers earning second team All-WCHA honours in the process. McNaughton led the NCAA in wins with 34 and goals against average posting a 1.17 mark. She was second in the NCAA with a .947 save percentage, and tied for third with eight shutouts.
