The USA was first out of the gate to name their 2025 women’s World Championship roster, but Switzerland quickly followed. Switzerland recently announced their roster for the tournament, where they’ll look to retain a spot in Group A.
“Since the battle level and, above all, the game without the puck will be decisive at this level of the World Cup, we are counting on a solid defense as the key to success. That’s why we deliberately selected strong defensive defenders who are physically present and play with a physical approach,” said Switzerland’s head coahc Colin Muller.
Switzerland’s blueline features four teenagers, with the eldest defenders being 25-year-olds Shannon Sigrist and Stefanie Wetli. 16-year-old Laure Mériguet is the youngest player on the roster. She’s joined as a teen on the Swiss blueline by Alessia Baechler (19), Alena Lynn Rossel (18), and Elena Gaberell (19). Also patrolling Switzerland’s blueline will be returnees Lara Christen and Nicole Vallario.
Up front, Boston Fleet forward Alina Müller will be counted upon to do the offensive heavy lifting. She’s joined by Swiss star Lara Stalder, and Rahel Enzler who finished third in scoring in the PostFinance Women’s League this year. Switzerland will also look upon Ivana Wey, Sinja Leeman, and Alina Marti to play offensive roles.
The youthful Swiss team also features a group of teenagers up front including Wey, Naemi Herzig, Leoni Balzer, and Vanessa Schaefer. Rounding out the forward group are Kaleigh Quennec, Noemi Ryhner, Lisa Rüedi, and Laura Zimmermann.
In net, Andrea Brändli will return as Switzerland’s starter. She’ll be backed by Saskia Maurer and Monja Wagner.
Switzerland will play Germany and Sweden in a pair of friendly exhibitions leading up to the tournament. They open their 2025 World Championship against host Czechia on April 9.
